Anniversary celebration 150 years Hotel Friese on Norderney
The Gramberg family and team celebrate with guests and neighbors
You simply have to celebrate such a special event
Recorder concert or “full throttle” we asked ourselves ... - So it was “full throttle”
The planning began back in January 2020, when we wrote to the first band to perform at our anniversary.
The plans took shape in January 2022. Things were moving forward. And the planning has been in full swing since the beginning of October 2022.
But how did we spend this special day or this special weekend?
The anniversary started on 21.04.2023 with the arrival of our many invited guests.
The restaurant, the pub and the hotel were open for our guests only. There was a small menu followed by a get-together in our Bierstube.
A relaxed and successful start to our anniversary weekend.
On 22.04.2023 the time had come.
Early in the morning, further preparations were made for the party in the evening.
Friedrichstrasse was closed off and a large truck and trailer were parked across the road.
We received a trolley from Deckena butchers to sell bratwurst and our drinks supplier Ahlers supplied us with a beer trolley including drinks. We had a toilet truck for the evening in Karlstraße.
Meanwhile, preparations were underway in the restaurant for the champagne reception at 11 am.
Many guests from near and far arrived. Friends from Oberstdorf, Paderborn and Hamburg, to name but a few.
But also many friends and acquaintances from Norderney.
Of course, our district administrator, Mr. Olaf Meinen, was not to be missed. Neither did Ms. Kerstin Kontny from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the deputy mayor Axel Stange and many representatives of long-standing business partners and craft businesses.

After the speeches by Mr. Tjark-Remmer Gramberg, District Administrator Olaf Meinen, Ms. Kerstin Kontny, Mr. Axel Stange, Mr. Jörg Saathoff, Mr. Karl Alteköster and Mr. Uwe Ennen, asparagus soup and canapés were served.
At 2 p.m., our guests were taken on a tour of the town “In the footsteps of the Grambergs on Norderney” by town guide Ernie Schorn. All our stations on Norderney were covered. If you are interested in our history, please take a look at our anniversary brochure.
While our guests walked in our footsteps, we set up everything for our grand finale in the evening and the bands did their sound check.
From 5 p.m. onwards, the guests arrived for the evening.
For all 150 invited guests, there was a hot and cold buffet in the restaurant with freshly sliced sea buckthorn gin salmon, saddle of venison, shrimp cocktail and many other delicacies.
On the street there was freshly tapped beer, soft drinks and bratwurst. Every drink and bratwurst sold was a 100% donation to the Norderney Volunteer Fire Brigade.
At 6 pm, the band Størtebecker kicked things off. With songs by Santiano and self-composed songs in sailor style, they brought a great atmosphere to Friedrichstraße despite the rain. Many danced under the umbrellas that had been set up or the umbrellas they had brought with them.
At 8 p.m., the next band continued - Celtica Pipes Rock.
With flaming bagpipes and drums, they put on a spectacular performance.
The street continued to fill up as Celtica played a mix of rock and folk with bagpipes and the aforementioned flute.
The rain had stopped and people continued to dance in the street. Wherever we looked, people were having fun.
At 10:45 pm, Celtica Pipes Rock ended our anniversary with a grand finale. The guests slowly went to their rooms or back home.
We started to tidy up the street and the musicians dismantled their instruments. By 23:30, everything was tidied up again and a very exhausting, but also incredibly beautiful and eventful day came to an end.
According to some estimates, there were probably a good 2,000 guests enjoying the music. If it hadn't been for the rain, there would probably have been far more ... so many who approached us afterwards.
In the days that followed, many islanders came up to us and raved about the day. Many called weeks later and thanked us for this “festival” experience.
It was a celebration for us, but there is one thing we cannot and must not leave unmentioned at this point:
Without our fantastic employees, we would not have been able to spend 150 years on the island, nor would we have been able to hold this weekend.
Everyone performed at their absolute best. THANK YOU once again

Gastronomy at Hotel Friese
Hotel Friese - an overview
Our traditional and family-run Hotel Friese looks back on a long history. The comfortably furnished and typically Frisian hotel is just a 200 m walk from the sea and close to the shopping streets. Despite its central location, Hotel Friese is completely quiet. Our popular restaurant “Friesenschänke” is located directly in the hotel. A delicious and rich breakfast buffet awaits you every morning from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Hotel Friese.
