Hotel Friese - an overview

Our traditional and family-run Hotel Friese looks back on a long history. The comfortably furnished and typically Frisian hotel is just a 200 m walk from the sea and close to the shopping streets. Despite its central location, Hotel Friese is completely quiet. Our popular restaurant “Friesenschänke” is located directly in the hotel. A delicious and rich breakfast buffet awaits you every morning from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Hotel Friese.

You can also visit our beer bar and our rum club. In a rustic ambience and a pleasant atmosphere, you can sample over 170 different rums from all over the world from 8 p.m. alongside a good beer. Or you can sign up for a very special rum tasting -  a good start for all those for whom rum is far too good to be put “in the tea”

In our Friesenschänke in the Hotel Friese on Norderney, you will find a huge selection of exotic rum specialties that we have collected for you from all over the world. There is also something special for the very brave: our “Würgengel Kräuterbitter”. With 40 percent alcohol by volume, this herbal bitters simply cleanses away any discomfort. It's a real treat before and after a meal.

Afterwards, you are welcome to return to our cozy beer bar and travel with us to distant continents and get to know a huge selection of exotic rum specialties that we have collected for you from all over the world.

Interesting facts about our East Frisian tea

  • Tea is usually on the stove all day in East Frisian households.
  • 3 cups of tea are “East Frisian law”, which means that traditionally, tea is drunk three times
  • The bigger the rock candy - the higher the guest's esteem
  • The teaspoon is not used for stirring. Tea is not stirred. The actual purpose of the teaspoon is to be placed in the cup when the guest no longer wants tea
  • The teapot is not rinsed
  • If the tea is too strong, it can be diluted with hot water in the cup or teapot. East Frisians then speak of “Badgastentee” (bathing guest tea), as this is not typical of East Frisia
